Is Elements of Style still relevant?

Strunk & White’s “The Elements of Style” remains very popular, but over the years I’ve come to be persuaded that it is, at least, badly flawed — especially if viewed as a set of rules (which it sometimes how it comes across) rather than just as advice.

In literature, style comprises many literary devices that an author employs to create a distinct feel for a work. These devices include, but are not limited to, point of view, symbolism, tone, imagery, diction, voice, syntax, and the method of narration.
