Once you’ve completed the game once, you’ll unlock the Cavern area, and a boss fight against a very large cranky skeleton. Finish that and the original final boss on the highest difficulty (5 Boss Cells) and you’ll gain access to one final, brutally tough area with an absolute slobberknocker of a fight at the end.

There is no leveling up in Dead Cells. You just play until you’re good enough to beat the entire game in what is effectively one sitting. The only variables that change are the drop rate of more powerful weapons and items.

Dying sends you back to the starting area and robs you of most of your belongings; your money, your cells (not the ones in your body but instead the things that you give to the Collector who we’ll get to in a bit), your weapons, and your skills.

Outfits change the colors and shape of the player model. Some specific outfit elements, like the Concierge outfits’ shoulder plate, change color depending on the player’s gear.

Necrosis: occurs when a cell dies due to lack of a blood supply, or due to a toxin. The cells’ contents can leak out and damage neighbouring cells, and may also trigger inflammation. Necroptosis: is similar in appearance to necrosis, in that the dying cell’s contents can leak out.

Death isn’t always irreversible. Cells that are seemingly dead or dying can sometimes revive themselves through a process called anastasis.
